The Wind-up Bird Chronicle

Haruki Murakami, 2003
(translated by Jay Rubin)

Finally managed to finish this 607 pages book (Thank you Iman chan :). 607 pages! and it took me months! (actually I completed 2 other books within the period :)

It is about a low-key unemployed man, Toru Okada, whose cat runs away (and also his wife). A chain of events follow that prove that his seemingly mundane boring life is much more complicated than it appears.

Several characters appear in this book and each one has their own story (Okada is the listener to all the stories). So many stories that sometimes makes me wonder "do these stories related to each other?"....you know, that kind of feeling.....And I found some of the story "boring" (so i skipped a few pages :) ..but I do like the stories about war..WW2..war stories relating Japan- Russia- Mongolia- China. The war stories featured in this book might be fiction but I suppose they are based on some real event happened during the World War II.

Ok, overall it is too long and complicated and heavy.
I still have faith in "Haruki Murakami" though :D and the Japanese version of another Haruki Murakami novel -"Norwegian Wood" (Akiko lent me) is on my desk..waiting for me to explore him (or her :) ..but I think I would read something lighter first. My brain needs some rest! hehe

★★★

My 1st book, 2011
